Fixed implant-supported teeth are a prosthetic restoration supported by dental implants, primarily intended for patients who have lost all or most of the teeth in a dental arch. Unlike a removable denture, the restoration is fixed to the implants and is not removed by the patient on a daily basis.
These terms describe full-arch dental rehabilitation in which multiple implants are used to support a fixed prosthetic restoration.
All-on-4 uses four implants, All-on-6 uses six implants, while All-on-X refers to a treatment concept in which the number and position of the implants are determined according to the patient's individual clinical situation.
An individual clinical assessment is required. The dentist evaluates the condition of the remaining teeth, gums, bone quantity and quality, medical history and diagnostic imaging before recommending the most appropriate treatment option.
The procedure is performed under anaesthesia, which helps control pain during implant placement. Temporary tenderness, swelling or discomfort may occur after the procedure. Your dentist will provide appropriate post-operative instructions to support your recovery.
In selected cases, the implants may provide sufficient stability for a provisional fixed restoration to be placed shortly after surgery. However, immediate loading is not suitable for every patient. It depends on factors such as implant stability, bone quality and the individual clinical situation.
Treatment duration varies from patient to patient. After implant placement, a healing and osseointegration period is required. Once appropriate clinical conditions have been achieved, the definitive prosthetic restoration can be fabricated and fitted.
Dental implants are designed as a long-term treatment option, but their lifespan cannot be guaranteed. Long-term outcomes can be influenced by oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups, smoking, general health and how well the implant-supported restoration is maintained.
